South Atlantic S 440
South Atlantic S 440 Self Steering Windvane
Designed for ocean-going yachts up to 40 ft.
The South Atlantic S 440 uses a highly efficient servo-pendulum system, combining wind force with the boat’s motion through the water to deliver precise, responsive steering.
Many wind vanes are unnecessarily heavy for smaller boats, but the S 440 is purpose-designed for the specific needs of compact ocean-going yachts. Here’s what sets it apart:
- Ultralight Design: At just 17 kg, it’s exceptionally light—well suited to modern, performance-oriented yachts where weight at the stern matters.
- High Strength, Low Weight: Advanced materials give it impressive rigidity and durability, outperforming many bulkier systems without adding unnecessary mass.
- Optimized for Smaller Yachts: Rather than simply fitting boats up to 40 ft, it’s engineered to perform best on them, delivering dependable self-steering without affecting balance or speed.
In essence, the South Atlantic S 440 strikes a practical balance between robustness and efficiency—built for sailors who demand reliable offshore performance without excess weight.
"The silent crew member that never sleeps and never tires."
S 440
Engineered specifically for offshore yachts from 27 to 40 feet. The S-440 delivers high-performance steering without the bulk.
On many vessels, the massive weight and leverage of traditional self-steering systems can strain thin-walled stern structures, compromising the safety of the installation. This is especially critical for yachts between 30 and 40 feet, where every kilogram matters.
The South Atlantic S-440 solves this challenge with a total weight of just 17 kg. By utilizing modern, high-strength materials, we have created a system that is significantly lighter—yet more stable—than the heavy alternatives from other manufacturers.
- Weight: ca. 17 Kilos
- LOA Series S-440: up to 12 m / 40 ft
- Displacement Series S-440: up to 10000 kg
- Materials - Seawater-resistant aluminium
- POM bearings
- Servo rudder made of polyethylene
- 6 mm polycarbonate vane
- Bearings - We use sliding bearings that require no maintenance and operate smoothly. The need for replacement bearings is almost non-existent.
- Strength and Durability - South Atlantic uses a 100% seawater-resistant alloy. A lifetime guarantee is provided against material defects in the aluminium.
The length of the air vane mast, pendulum shaft, and tiller arm can be customized to fit each individual boat.
